Wedding photography in Benalmádena - marina views and warm coast light

A coast with more layers than most couples expect

Most people think of Benalmádena as the seafront - the big resort strip between Torremolinos and Fuengirola. But the municipality extends well inland, up to the original white village perched on the hillside and the resort hotels above the tree line. That range of settings is what makes it interesting to work in.

El Higuerón is one of the best venues in this section of the coast - contemporary architecture, unobstructed sea views and afternoon light that falls cleanly across the terraces. The Castillo de Colomares offers something different entirely: a fairy-tale folly with a visual quality that exists nowhere else. And Benalmádena Pueblo, often overlooked, has the whitewashed charm of the inland villages without requiring a long drive.

Whether you're planning wedding photography alone or adding a wedding film, the variety of locations here - beach, village, hillside - means there's always something strong to work with.

  • Three visual settings in one municipalityVillage, seafront and hillside resort - Benalmádena offers more visual contrast across a single wedding day than most locations on the coast.
  • Strong international communityBenalmádena has deep roots with UK, Irish and Scandinavian couples - the area is familiar and practical for international weddings, with good transport links and accommodation.
  • Close to Mijas PuebloFor portrait time in an authentic Andalusian white village, Mijas Pueblo is 15 minutes away - an easy addition to a Benalmádena wedding day if the light and schedule allow.
Local knowledge

Venues and locations in Benalmádena

From hilltop resort to beachfront venue and white village - here's where we work in Benalmádena.

Premium hilltop resort

El Higuerón Resort

One of the strongest venues in this section of the Costa del Sol. El Higuerón sits on the ridge between Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and the panoramic Mediterranean views from the ceremony terrace are exceptional. The architecture is contemporary and clean - it photographs very well in direct afternoon light. Full wedding infrastructure, luxury accommodation on site, and a professional events team.

Unique monument

Castillo de Colomares

Not a conventional venue - Castillo de Colomares is a privately built monument on the hillside above Benalmádena, and one of the most visually distinctive locations on the entire coast. It can be hired for symbolic ceremonies and photography sessions outside public hours. The sculpted towers, carved stonework, and sea views create images that are genuinely unlike anything else in the region.

White village

Benalmádena Pueblo

The original hilltop village, sitting above and entirely separate from the coastal resort strip. Narrow whitewashed streets, traditional Andalusian architecture, and wide views across the coast and mountains. Often overlooked in favour of the seafront venues, but it photographs beautifully in the late afternoon and offers a visual quality that no hotel terrace can replicate.

Beachfront venue

Sunset Beach Club

One of the most established wedding venues on the Benalmádena seafront, with dedicated ceremony and reception spaces and direct sand access. The seafront position works particularly well for late-afternoon ceremonies - the light comes in low from the sea and the images take on a warmth that holds from spring through October.

Hotel estate

Villa Torrequebrada

A large hotel set in extensive grounds above the Benalmádena coastline. Good for bigger celebrations that benefit from having ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and accommodation all on the same property. The elevated gardens and wooded surroundings offer useful portrait settings away from the main event spaces.

Marina setting

Puerto Deportivo

Benalmádena's marina has a distinct character that the hotel venues cannot match - boats, waterside restaurants, colour, and an animated social atmosphere. More useful as a portrait backdrop than a ceremony venue in its own right, but for couples who want images with a relaxed coastal energy, it is worth including in the day.

Getting married in Benalmádena

Benalmádena works well as a wedding destination for a number of reasons that are worth understanding before you commit to a venue. Its position on the coast - 20 minutes from Málaga airport and with direct transport links running the length of the Costa del Sol - makes it one of the most accessible locations for international guests. UK and Irish couples in particular find the town familiar, well-served, and easy to navigate.

The range of settings is the other significant factor. Very few municipalities on the coast offer a modern hilltop resort, a whitewashed pueblo, a marina, and a beachfront within the same 10-kilometre stretch. That variety means the day can move through genuinely different visual environments, and the photography reflects that movement in a way that a single-location day often cannot.

When to marry in Benalmádena

Late spring and early autumn are the strongest seasons. April through June and September through October offer warm, manageable temperatures, consistently good evening light, and venues that are not crowded with peak summer tourism. The light from around four o'clock through to sunset is exceptional in these months - long, warm and directional.

July and August are popular but require some planning. The afternoon heat on the coast is intense in peak summer, and ceremony timing matters: a six o'clock ceremony rather than a four o'clock one makes a significant difference to both comfort and photography conditions. Venues with shade infrastructure and sea breeze exposure - El Higuerón and the seafront hotels - are better placed for summer weddings than inland locations.

We cover wedding photography and cinematic wedding films across the full Benalmádena municipality. If you have a specific venue in mind and want an honest assessment of how it works through the different parts of the day, we are happy to share what we know before you commit.

You can see how this comes together in practice in Arthur and Dace's beach wedding in Benalmádena, which captures a full coastal day from ceremony to reception. If you are still in the early planning stages, our destination wedding guide for Spain covers logistics, venue types, and what to expect when planning from abroad.

Questions

Benalmádena wedding questions

What areas does Benalmádena cover?

Benalmádena is actually three distinct areas: Benalmádena Pueblo (the original hilltop white village), Benalmádena Costa (the coastal strip with most of the hotels and venues), and Arroyo de la Miel (the inland commercial town). Most weddings take place in the coastal and pueblo areas.

Is El Higuerón in Benalmádena or Fuengirola?

El Higuerón sits on the boundary between the two municipalities - it's often listed under both. We cover the full area, and the resort itself is one of the strongest venues on this stretch of coast.

Do you offer photography and film for Benalmádena weddings?

Yes - combined photography and film packages are available for all Benalmádena venues. We cover the full municipality including the Pueblo, the coastal venues, and the hillside resorts.

Can you incorporate Mijas Pueblo into a Benalmádena wedding day?

Yes. Mijas Pueblo is about 15 minutes from the coastal Benalmádena venues. For couples who want portrait time in an Andalusian white village setting, incorporating a short Mijas session into the day is something we can plan for.

How much does wedding photography cost in Benalmádena?

Photography packages for Benalmádena weddings start from €1,350 for up to 6 hours, and €1,750 for a full wedding day. Combined photo and film packages start from €3,000. All prices are confirmed clearly before you book. See the pricing page for full details.

What is the best time of year for a wedding in Benalmádena?

Late spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October) are the strongest seasons for a Benalmádena wedding. The light is warm and directional, temperatures are comfortable, and the coast has not yet entered peak tourist season. Summer weddings in July and August are possible but require careful ceremony timing to manage the afternoon heat.
