Getting married in Mijas
Mijas has a quality that distinguishes it from almost every other wedding location on the Costa del Sol. The Pueblo is genuinely historic - not a reconstruction, not a resort version of a Spanish village, but the real thing, inhabited for centuries and largely unchanged by the development that has reshaped the coast below it. That authenticity is visible in the photographs. It comes through without any effort.
The combination of a white village for portraits and a well-equipped venue lower down for the ceremony and reception is a format that works particularly well here. The two parts of the day have a completely different visual character, and the contrast between them gives the photography and the film a depth that a single location cannot produce.
Mijas Pueblo for wedding portraits
Most couples who marry in the Mijas area use the Pueblo at some point during the day - often between the ceremony and the reception, when there is time for a portrait session before the evening begins. The narrow streets, the white walls, the views from the mirador, and the church square all give strong material to work with.
The late afternoon light in the Pueblo is one of the things we come back for most. It arrives through the lanes at an angle that suits portraiture naturally, and the warm reflected light off the white walls produces images that have a softness and warmth that is very difficult to replicate in a studio or at a coastal hotel. Spring and early autumn are the strongest periods - the light is at its best and the village is not yet full of summer visitors.
